A publication, not an adviser

Profitmonk publishes research and the results of mechanical strategies. It is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer. Every issue is the same for every subscriber and is released to all of them at the same time; none of it is written for, or takes account of, any reader's finances, goals or circumstances. Nothing published is a recommendation that any particular person buy, sell or hold any security.

The author's positions

The author may hold, and may buy or sell, positions in securities discussed in the research or held by the model portfolio, before, at or after publication. The author's own trades can differ from what is published. Treat every article and issue as coming from someone who may own the stock.

Hypothetical performance

Every return, drawdown and ratio on this site comes from a backtest: a simulation of published rules over historical prices. No money was traded to produce it, and almost all of it was computed after the fact, with the benefit of hindsight. Simulations leave out real-world frictions in ways that differ by strategy; the cost assumptions are stated on each strategy page and on the portfolio page, and taxes are not modelled anywhere. The latest quarter shown is usually incomplete. Real results would differ, and may be materially worse.

No forecast, no guarantee

Past results, real or simulated, do not predict future results. The strategies can and do lose money, and the drawdowns shown are not the worst that can happen.

Leveraged products

One sleeve of the model portfolio holds a 3x leveraged exchange-traded fund. Leveraged funds can lose most of their value quickly and are unsuitable for many investors.

Sources and errors

Figures in the research come from the sources cited and from company filings and market data as of publication. They can contain errors and go out of date. Check anything you rely on.
